Greentree Naturals

In the cold winter months, colorful seed and flower catalogs arrive in the mail, inspiring some home gardeners to dream about all the flowers and vegetables they would like to plant in the spring. Others look at the pretty pictures, but know they don’t have the time to do all that hard work. What if a huge bag of fresh, organic vegetables and fruits arrived on your doorstep every week of the summer season? No, it’s not a fantasy, it’s “Community Supported Agriculture” – CSA, for short.
Greentree Naturals has been using a CSA arrangement since 1998 to supply the Sandpoint community with local, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs and flowers. The way it works is: Early in the year, you buy a share of the future harvest, then over the course of June through September, your share is delivered to you each week shortly after it is harvested.
The selection of produce changes every week. The first bags of the season are full of spring greens and herbs; over time, the selection varies according to what is ready to harvest that week. Often there’s a surprise in the bag, such as a jar of homemade jam or a bag of dried herbs. And always a newsletter with stories from the farm, a list of what’s in the bag, and recipes to help you use what you received. You can even visit the farm and see how your food is grown.
Shares are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is best to reserve your share early! The farmers need to know ahead of time how many subscribers they will have so they can plan their garden. For more information, see http://www.greentreenaturals.com/csa.htm
